I examined the software by performing two tests-running the Geekbench system performance tool and measuring boot times. Norton Utilities measurably enhances a PC's performance. Norton Utilities lacks this functionality. #Norton utilities full#I like keeping an eye on my PC's system health without having to launch the full app. Iolo System Mechanic provides this functionality, and I really dig it. My ideal tune-up utility has a widget that lives in the corner of my desktop that serves up at-a-glance system information. #Norton utilities drivers#If you want to use Norton Utilities as your tune-up utility of choice, I suggest also downloading IOBit Driver Booster Pro to keep your drivers up to date. Norton Utilities also lacks a driver updater, process manager, and hard drive and memory monitors. Norton Utilities could use such a feature. For instance, Ashampoo WinOptimizer has a cool feature that lets you disable Windows 10's data collecting from within the app. Unfortunately, Norton Utilities lacks Windows 10-specific features, though it is compatible with the OS. One of my favorite Norton Utilities features is the third-party app start-up time measurer, as it shows you the impact of the apps you have set to run when the PC boots. I recovered deleted files, permanently deleted others, scrubbed my browser history, and ran various tools with ease. Norton Utilities' real-time system monitoring function enables the app to keep an eye on files, so that it can more effectively tune up your PC.įor the most part, those are solid features that you'll find in just about every tune-up utility of note, and they work well here. Settings is the area where you tweak options for nearly all of the aforementioned features. Recovery lets you perform five actions, including Recover Lost Files and Restore Registry Backups. Privacy is where you get rid of your digital footsteps by running Clear Your Browsing History, Shred Files, and other functions. Performance lets you run individual tools, such as Clean Your Registry and Defragment Disks. The Dashboard displays your PC's health, the start-up time for third-party software, free hard drive space, a large one-click optimization icon, and other information. Norton Utilities boasts a clean and easy-to-navigate interface that's divided into five areas. Iolo is the company to roll with if you want to tune up more than three computers. #Norton utilities install#That said, Iolo System Mechanic tops Ashampoo WinOptimizer and Norton Utilities by tossing license limitations to the wind you can install the software on an unlimited number of computers. Norton has a three-PC license, which is standard fare in the tune-up utility space. On the upside, the $49.99 purchase price for Norton Utilities gets you a perpetual license, so you don't have to re-up your subscription on an annual basis, as Iolo System Mechanic ($14.98 at iolo technologies) forces you to do. Unlike Ashampoo WinOptimizer, Norton Utilities lacks a demo version, so you can't try before you buy. These are all specs that most modern computers should easily exceed. The software requires that your PC have 100MB of available storage and a 1024 by 768-pixel resolution (or better) monitor. In terms of hardware requirements, Norton Utilities is not at all demanding.
